If I caught the largest fish of my career yesterday then I caught the smallest fish today.
I was in the channel by 6:45 and went straight to the honey hole but she didn't give up any fish. It was my first time using a spoon so I was trying to figure out the technique most all morning. Around 11:30 I caught this cute baby bass, I still did the honor of grabbing it with my Boga Grips for a photo-op just in case it was my only catch - sure enough it was. The water stayed at 52 degrees all day and I didn't see many fish on the SONAR. Maybe they were swept down river.
I had some very hard strikes on the spoon but just couldn't seal the deal. Hours would pass between strikes but fish were rising all around me all day long! When a fish did finally hit the spoon it was a very hard strike. I'm not certain if that's indicative of spoon fishing but it surprised me when it continued to happen throughout the day. One strike in particular caught me off guard and my fast action rod bent way down and after a 5 second fight the lure shook loose when the fish ran under my boat. When I looked at the SONAR I saw where he was following my spoon around 16 feet deep. The big ones always shake loose.
I fished from Suck Creek to Raccoon Mountain and arrived back at the ramp around 5:30 PM.
Whenever I go fishing I try to shore up some place and walk around. I found this very interesting location not far from the ramp. It's nice to get out and stretch your legs on solid ground after being rocked back and forth all day in the sun.
