Got to go offshore about 20 miles with an old friend who had just bought a new Mako about 2 months ago. He had been out the day before and caught a few and also was broken off several times. We went back to the same places (one was a old army tank) and I came back smelling like a skunk. Could not get one to the boat. Got broke off several times and missed a few more. We were fishing cigar minnows about 90-110 feet deep with a 6 oz weight. I had a lot of trouble feeling anything with that much weight on the line. We were hooking the cigars just up from the tails and the fish were biting off the head and we couldn't feel a thing. So we switched the hook to the head and they started biting off the tail. My buddy did finally get a king and a red snapper in the boat and Offshore is going to post the pics for me. Got invited to come back next summer during snapper season and will go for sure. There was a boat anchored near us that was catching some mangrove snapper on live pinfish but of course all we had were the frozen cigar minnows.
