I know it has been discussed on here before, but I am currently looking to purchase a boat, and have found one with an Evinrude 175 Ficht motor. Has anyone had issues with this motor before? I dont remember what was said about these engines. Please help, and before anyone suggests using the search engine at the top..I have and nothing was found. thx.

I personally would stay away. The early years were time bombs. There are a lot of people who hate them and some who love them. I don't care for them. Just my .02.

All I needed to hear, thanks dood. My boat hunt continues!

What price range you looking for? Davo is getting ready to put is Triton on the market. You may shoot him a pm and see what he wants.

My time bomb has gone off two times. emoBang I had to replace the power head and the lower unit. I hit a ramp with the lower unit so that one is really not an engine issue. It is ten years old so you do expect to do some service type replacement stuff. I have not had issues with it this year and it is running great. Mine is a 200 Evinrude Fitch. I will say that when it is running well like it is now it will haul. I keep it around 5000 to 5300 RPMs and go about 60 MPH at that level. It will crank up to just over 6000 RPMs and at that level I can get up to right at 70 MPH. That was what I was doing the time the power head blew. I will not be doing that again. :( For a nineteen foot Ranger that is really not all that bad. Rangers are not made for speed. More the led sled Cadillac of bass boats.

Go black! get a MERC!!!! I have only had minor issues with my optimax, that comes along with heavy use.

Don't buy it!!!! I had both the old and new FICHT. The first one ran for the first year then spent more time in the shop than on the water. It was the OMC Ficht. I took a beating when I got rid of the boat. Had the new BRP Ficht on my 2002. It blew up just out of warranty. It ook about three months before they sold me a new E-Tec for about $12,500 plus installation

I have a 1998 Evinrude 175 FICHT. I can tell you with 100% confidence................................RUN AWAY FROM IT. Wash your mouth out with soap for even uttering it's name. Throw away your key board since you soiled it by typing the word FICHT.

i have a 98 150 ficht with 680 hrs. i'am one of the lucky ones ,only a computer problem a year ago. mine does have the update kit which is different heads.

That looks just like my boat, seats and all. (Well not anymore I bought new seats.)

Here is mine:
