Over the past few years I have had a number of my buddies try to get me to go deer hunting but I never had until now. The short of it is I'm in trouble because im hooked! I will start by saying this was the perfect scenario. My best friend and his brother who is also a good friend of mine have 2 farms they lease up in Butler county Kentucky and have been on me hard to come up and hunt and I made the trek up. Hadn't been in the stand 10 minutes and a doe comes in from behind me and a couple of minutes later there is another one coming down the ridge. I slowly turned around and saw an 8 pointer about 25 yards away. I probably had 10 good chances to shoot him but never did. He was a mainframe 6 with claws. After he left I questioned myself for not shooting since I had never shot a deer before. About 20 minutes later a small buck showed up and immediately an 8 pointer came in from the back of the field to show him who was boss. He met the small buck about 20 yards from my stand and in buck language told him who was boss and I had the perfect shot on him and took it. He took off down the 4 wheeler trail and I could see him for a couple hundred yards and thought I had missed him. I sat in the stand about another hour before getting down. Went over to where I shot him and found no signs of blood. I decided to walk down the 4 wheeler trail and at the end of the trail there he was! I was pumped. A small deer for Kentucky but none the less a big bodied 8 pointer and my 1st deer... He was about 250 pounds. That experience is one I will never forget and have a feeling it is the first of many hunts!
