I finally made the 3.5 hour drive from virginia down to the chick. Was kind of surprised at how shollow the lake is. Didn;t expect it to be so little water on the bank. Also there was more veg. then i also expected. anyway I found the fishing to be queit tough for my first trip. I put in up at dayton marine and traveled downstream fishing points, sloughs and rocky banks as i went. I threw a skitter pop the first hour or so with no takers. Found a very long point that ran out to the main channel with a little wind and caught three lm (no keepers) there on crankbait.Had a very hard time keeping the grass(coon tail maybe) off the hooks. I also threw a rattle trap somewhat with no takers. moved on down looking for spots that i would fish at home. found a nice looking bank down next to the bridge with some nice rock and decided to throw a worm which got me two more bites (lm .. no keepers) from there i fished a couple humps with carlonia rig with no takers. went back around the humps again with crank no takers. decided that maybe i was fishing to close to the bank and backed off into 9 ft of water in the sloughs and i started hooking a few more fish but no keepers. fished the crank till 4 pm ending up down around sale creek. hung me head and headed back up to dayton and loaded the triton. Talked to a few locals at the ramp which said a couple keepers is all its been taking to win tourneys. Still feel like i'm a better fisherman than that but there is always next time. guess i'll be back again sat. for another try.
