I almost went fishing this morning,....boy, I am so glad I gave it one more try for a trophy buck this year. Here it was the last day of the year and I had yet to shoot and find a good buck this year. I had hit the one up in Marion County that I never found and other then that one I had only seen does and small bucks.
This morning with a cool 31 degrees and frost I was sure hoping that the deer would be moving. As I got to my spot the fog was rolling in and I could not see 50 yards.emoEek I have a deer blind I had built on a long run where the deer had been moving but I had not had any good shots at anything big. It was about 7:15 and I settled down for a nice cold morning to watch the woods come alive. It is so peaceful in the morning and as the sun started to come over the horizon and birds began to sing I remembered why I like it in the woods even if the deer are not around. It was about 8:05 and I heard a lot of noise coming off the hill that rose in front of me but the fog shielded whatever it was. There are a lot of Turkey in that area and at first I thought it was a few turkey coming down my way. As I peered into the fog I caught sight of a nice sized deer and he was going a good pace angling toward me out in front. The fog made it hard to see him well but shortly I saw a very nice rack!emoTongue I saw right off he was a keeper so I stopped looking at the horns and started looking for the shot. He was moving closer but at an angle in front so I waited a few more yards and when he hit an opening in the trees I let him have one. At around 80/100 yard shot he fell in his tracks and kicked a couple but never got back up.emoSmile Since it was so early and still not full light and with the fog so bad I decided to stay put until I could see better. I saw eleven more deer in the next hour and a half.emoWorthy To say the least they were truely moving this morning. I finally could take no more waiting and went to my deer to see what I had. He was a very nice large eight point with a spread just shy of 16 inches. He weighed about 160-175 so I knew I had to go get the 4 wheeler. When I returned there was a doe and two yearlings no more then 20 yards in front of my blind. I would say that 15 deer by ten oclock was a good day in almost anyones book.emoApplause
I will try to get some pictures posted as soon as I can. I am going to have Churly do it since he is a lot better at it then me.emoThanks
