find year model on motor

have a evinrude 15hp motor and was wandering if there was a way to find out what year it is.thanks

Do you have a model number?? I can tell you with that. It should be on the engine block.

James is right on the motor, there is a round plug on the top of the head about the size of a quarter will tell you the exactly which model and serial
You should also have a plate on the motor, or motor mount that has the model and serial. the serial number has year made in the serial

Since 1980 it was encoded in the model with letters, earlier than that it was sometimes stamped on the squelch plug on the block, or sometimes I just have to run number and it comes up with the year. But the model number tell all! Just post it and I will try and tell ya what year it is.
