killed my first bird wednsday morning. it was 18 lbs. had 10.25 in beard. 1 in spurs.

got to place where i was hunting. set up my decoys, got my blind fixed up, was excited, ready to go. sat there for a few minutes and all of a sudden sounded like a tornado comin thru the trees right above my head. it was a hen and she was roosted maybe 8 yards behind my head up in a pine. scared me to death, thought well that isn't good. then bout 10 minutes later same thing again but maybe 3-4 more of em took off. i was sittin there kickin myself thinkin that i just screwed up the whole mornin, but what could i do so i just sat there and waited for it to get a little more daylight. right after daylight started to call a little bit but seemed like the birds would only answer to the crows that were driven them crazy. so i switched to a cheap slate call that i got as my first call, and the birds got happy. the bird that i killed was going away from me until i switched to this call and as soon as i did in two gobbles he probably covered 150 yards. popped his head out of the tree line and was walking right toward me but i was thinking he was gonna come out on further down so he caught me with my gun facing to his left to where my decoys were. well he took bout 3 steps my way and then he saw my decoys and went to full strut right to em. (Awesome first bird i ever saw strut). well he gobbles and another bird gobbles bout 60 yards directly behind me, comin my way, never even knew he was there up to that point. so i am getting worried that this one is gonna see me before i can drop the hammer on the first one. the one in the field walked right to where i needed him, i clucked, he stuck his head up and pow i missed at bout 15 yards, he took off running to my right and i let him have it at bout 30 yards. was so excited went out to see him and was standing there and heard the other tom fly off in a hurry right behind where i was sittin. needless to say my brother was in the other end of the field watching me with the bird and was not too happy with me when i told him there was another one right behind my blind that just flew off. sorry bro lost my head when that bird went to floppin.

couldn't get pictures to work will try again later.

Congrates! Ive been sitting on the porch this afternoon and listening to gobblers. They'er hot right now! emoToast

Congratulations! Nothing beats that first gobbler. I still remember every detail of my first. The only mistake I made was bagging a 24lber for my first bird.

I love hearing the details of wild turkey harvests. Sometimes they are easy and straight forward, but most times the stories have many twists and turns before the bird is bagged.
