Took my youngest son and his friend over to Mom's dock this morning to try to teach them a few things and to try out some of my new hair jigs. The kids had a ball catching some really nice crappie and Dad did ok too. We wound up catching around 25 crappie with 20 keepers. All were caught out of and around 1 brush pile in about 6 feet of water on the Float n Hair. Needless to say we will give them another shot tommorrow after Church.

Good job on getting the lil ones out there Why...

What type of hair are you using? And the color if you don't care to tell?

Sounds like a good day and hope you good luck out there today if the wind will let up some.

She lives a couple of sloughs south of Possum Creek if you know where that is. We were fishing off of the dock so not sure about water temps. We caught the fish on smoke/silver craft hair jigs that I have been experimenting with and tying my own. 1/16 ounce. Also caught some on silver/grey color.

Why, I tied some out of silver fox tail last year and added just a touch of pink to it. It worked real well down on Weiss. I haven't got to try it up here yet.

Also tied some with a few strands of flahabou in it. It looks really good and gives of a little better glint to it. Thanks for the info.

Thanks JW, but after learning to tie them myself, all you gotta have is the material (fox, deer, craft fur, etc) it is really easy and I wind up with about .30 cents in one and about double that if I use Gamagatsu black nickel hooks and really enjoy it.

When, don't act so dejected, take the bull by the horns and place the call. It sounds like many of the crappies are in the shallow water already. TT, this is your chance in Ramsey slough. There is some brush along the edge and you need to soak some minners and jigs out there.

I hear you Polo .. loud and clear. Me and my Fat Albert pole hope to go on Sunday morning! :) I been eyeballing the place ... been a truck parked there a couple times this past week. Sign #1 that someone is already doing what I'm thinking of doing this weekend.

TT, If you get off in the afternoon you could walk down there and fish until dusk, like after work. The best and easiest fishing that I have experienced has been as early in the year as possible. The first run to the shallows seems to be the hottest. The fish are hungry and haven't been turned off by all of the jigs/minnows that get thrown at them. Just my advice.

I'll take your advice Polo ... maybe hook up with JSV on our way home some day next week. I'm sure he'd like to get him some crappie too. He and I can have our own two person fishing tx right there in that little slough. :)

JSV? What say you? I think I'm good for any night but Thursday next week.
