Well I'm gettin out on the river tomorrow to try and find some sauger. Looking good, front coming in, nasty weather down here tomorrow. Perfect sauger fishing weather. We will see what happens... anyone have any lessons learned that might help me?

I saw some Sauger baits at Gander Mountain in Jackson,Tn last Saturday. They were made out of a huge piece of lead and really small treble hooks, strange looking. I hear that Sauger are delicious though.emoHungry Good luck catching them.

Where you headed? I heard a couple of days ago that they have started catching a few below Nickajack. Good luck!

I'll be on Wheeler. Actually in some of the areas we catfished when you paid us a visit. Actually I'll be working the hole you caught your 39 lber.

I've heard that they are thin right now at Guntersville Dam, so I'll be working those long holes down river.

Good luck Brandon. I have only fished for sauger on purpose 2 times in my life. That was several years ago below Watts Bar. Did pretty good. Caught my limit and had several sauger fishermen coming over to see what I was using for bait. It was a 2" white curly tail grub and a 1/8 oz jig. I was the only one catching any fish that day. Must of had a good spot on the bank. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Find some 3/4 to 1 oz. sauger jigs with a stinger treble hook that look something like what Hoppy's makes, see: http://www.hoppyslures.com/jigs.htm . Tip the jig with either a curly tail grub, a plastic shad, or REAL minnows. I haven't seen any Hoppy's lure displays in a long time, so when you do see some, you might want to buy several to stock up.

Be sure to fish anywhere there are either breaks in the current or substantial changes in depth. Places like the lock wall, wing wall, lock discharge area (be very careful and watch for the flashing light/siren of the lock discharge), barge mooring cells. etc.

Best of luck to you and tight lines! Let us know what your report is!
