I got the opportunity to take my step-dad hunting today and what a great day it was! I harvested a big tom last saturday, so I thought i would put him on one seeing He's never killed one. I seen this turkey last wed. evening with the hens I took my tom on! I knew those ladies would bring another man up with em! I knew he was around somewhere, but he never would gobble to show his location! So we sat up where I figured he would come out. The fog would roll in and out for a little while, then came a small shower. At around 7:45 I thought i heard a turkey fly down, but wasn't sure. Started gettin nervous thinking He wasn't gonna show up. The clouds were starting to break up when all of a sudden, There He was! 80 yards looking right at the decoys! I soft purred a little to keep him interested, but he didn't want to leave that spot. All of a sudden, he turned and started back where he came from! I called and he keep on walkin! Not knowing what to do, I done something never really tried before! I Gobbled to him! That done the trick! He turned right around and came back to us like he was on a string! Tommy let him get within 30 yards and he let the hammer down!!!!! I wanted to see him put on a show on that jake decoy, BUT if it would've been me that hadn't ever killed a turkey, I would had smoked him too! What a blessing The Lord has giving me today! He let me spend some quality time with my Step-dad and let me witness him harvesting his first turkey! FIRST TOM FOR TOM!
