I had planned on running up river. Even with the change in ramp location I considered it, but Dad said I would have to fly solo if I wanted to run a long way in the cold morning air, so we stayed on the lower end. Ran into Marion County Park 1st and hit a shallow stretch that has produced in the past with lipless and sq. bill; nada. Ran to the back and had too small keepers pretty quickly. thought we were going to get into some schoolers because they were right there together and bait was present but it didn't work out that way. Square billed the highway side rip/rap and picked up a couple shorts on sq. bill but no keeps. talked to a guy flinging the rig along that stretch and he said a 9 plus was caught there last weekend. that would have been nice. ran out to main lake after that and tried one of our old deep rip rap banks along the highway and not even a sniff which was a real surprise. Patrick and Dusty had just run that bank too. next stop was running water creek. pretty much finished the tournament in there because there were fish to be caught in the back. Caught 2 more keeps and couple shorts back there. Culled a 15 1/2 incher. Dad had a nice one come unbuttoned on the 2nd jump. and I had a good one in the 3 to 4 pound range beat me under the boat before we could get net under her. We did not fish clean so not much weight. I was happy to get a limit anyway the way my fishing has gone lately.
Thanks Mark for the help backing the trailer in the water in the dark!
And thanks to the committee and everyone that helped out at the weigh in.
Congrats to the $ winners on a tough day to get a big bag....
