Dad and I did a pre-fishing trip on The Nick last Sunday and fished from Sullivans all the way down to the lower end just a couple miles up from the Dam. We really did not establish any kind of reliable pattern at all. We fished a lot of water that used to be very reliable this time of year back when I fished down there a lot. It was discouraging to say the least. So when we heard about the big tourney out of Marion County Park and the number of boats with it, we decided to go up river instead of down river. I was pretty sure we could rely on getting an early limit of spots in the gorge. We were able to make that happen throwing topwater, SB's, and senkos. Once we had our 3 we started looking for big Largemouth on deeper channel banks so we could get rid of the spots. The plan doesn't always work but it did pretty good on Saturday. We caught 5 or 6 largemouth doing that pattern, one of which was just under 6 pounds. Glad we got them when we did because after about 11, the bites were very few and far between. I was using a jig most of the time and Dad a senko. Thanks to the committee and everybody that helps out and congrats to those that finished in the $.
