Day 1: started out shallow and scratched out a small keeper and jumped another decent fish on a grass flat throwing topwater and lipless CB's but shallow bite was real slow so we moved offshore fishing some drains where we caught a good number of spots and smallmouth. unfortunately most were too little. Frank did get a smallmouth between 3 and 4 pounds which I hoped would hold up for big SM but Billy got one bigger on day 2. finished the day with 4 keeps and 7lbs something. good enough for 4th going into day 2.
Day 2: my first stop was the same as some other boats so we all spread out and fished where we sat the boat down. we quickly got a couple keepers on senkos but that bite slowed so we started working some grass on the bank next to deep water and got a couple more keepers with plastic worms and topwater doing that. again had a lot of bites but just the wrong size. ended the day with 4 keeps again but no bigs.
Congrats to all the teams that finished in the $$.
and thanks to the committee for organizing and putting these derby's on. really fun trail to fish.
