We started out running down the lake to an offshore area that I am confident in that will produce keepers. Never caught any giants there, but usually holds fish. I had a little trouble positioning the boat where I wanted to, but finally after about 20 minutes we got locked in where we needed to be. (I got new electronics and either the internal gps antenna in the bow unit is weak, or there is something up there interfering with it because the boat position icon just spins around unless the boat is moving quickly). It’s a bird. My lowrance didn’t seem to do that. Anyway, we manage 2 squeaker keepers there and also get a few shorts but only the 2 keeps. It’s still daylight barely and we move down to a deep stretch of bank. Frank sets the hook and a brown torpedo shoots 3 feet out of the water. After a lengthy fight, we get it to net. Unfortunately, it was just under 18” so back in the drink he goes. Catch a couple more shorts there, and make another move down the lake to a spot we did well in during one of last years tourneys and zero’d. We knew it was going to be a no moon dark night, but dang, it was uncomfortable running; and we were fairly close to the dam. Long run in the dark. Run back up around pinky’s, slowly, and fish the grass. Not long into it, I have a submarine moving my line sideways, I rare back and set the hook, and it sounds like a 22 shot, my line breaks at the tip. I guess my line wrapped around the tip and I did not know it because it was dark. I said that was a good fish. A minute or two later, a 3 pounder jumps near the boat. At least it wasn’t a giant. It would have helped our cause but that’s fishing. We stay around the grass for another hour or so, and catch a couple shorts but it is very slow for us. It’s 1230, and I make the decision to move back towards the park and just finish up in there. It was slow going in the dark. I watched my map and kept the boat in the middle of the channel and used my qbeam in 5 second intervals to mark buoys. Got to the entrance to CFP and set the boat down to idle because there was a lot of boat traffic, at 12:45am lol. Get to the area we want to fish, and Frank catches a nice 2 1/2 or three pounder on a shaky pretty quickly that finally finishes out our 3 fish limit. Then I jump a nice fish on a SB. Would have helped but at least we are on to something. We finish the night on this pattern and literally on the last cast of the night, I drop the hammer on a 7.9 pound spawned out female. She was very ornery to say the least but we got her to the net and she turned a mediocre bag into a good bag. We packed up and got to the ramp sap....

Congrats to all who finished in the $. And as always, thanks to the committee for the hard work....

See y’all at RP.
