Started the night on an offshore hump. Didn’t read a lot of fish but decided to try anyway and glad we did. Before dark a pleasure boat swung in close and started motioning at us. A chick stood up on the bow yelling at us and pulled her bikini top up and flashed us. We didn’t have a bite there; but still worth the stop lol.
We fished the rip/rap along 153 after that for the first hour of dark and caught a few but all short fish. Had to spend 45 minutes re-rigging because it is a hangy event down there. Spent the rest of the night alternating brush, grass, docks, and some deeper stuff. Just couldn’t get any quality for some reason.
I did stick a heavy fish under a dock that is baited with everything but the kitchen sink. It’s notorious for giving up a good fish from time to time. But strike/catch ratio is iffy there. Fish got wrapped up. We spent a good 15 minutes doing everything but going swimming trying to free her up. I could feel her on there when I’d give slack because the line would tighten up. Could have been a game changer. Never saw her though. I was using an allstar GT40X rod and 17# line With drag torked but wasn’t able to get her moving my way in time.
Had a great time trying. We weighed 3 fish but man they were little guys.
2 of our keeps were on a jig with crawfish Trlr and the 3rd was on a shakey.
Congrats to everyone that finished in the $$$$. And thanks to the committee. Another well run event. Fun even when poor results.
See y’all at the next one.
