I have always had a fish finder on all my boats but have never used it for finding fish, I use it mainly for depth. I decided recently I would try to figure out the fish finding part. So I head up to the nuke plant and am really paying close attention to structure and fish id's. This thing is covered with fish ranging from 18 to 43 ft but after fishing for about 1.5 hours with a known good catfish bait (chicken thigh) I get no bites. Can anyone help me understand how to use this fish id thing?

Just b/c you see the fish doesnt mean there active. I have problems reading my graphs too, but the main thing is the knowledge you have in your head. The weather, water temp, depth, structure, bait, etc. are all factors that contribute to finding, then catching fish. Maybe someone else can help you out more, good luck!

Download the simulator from Lowrance. It will open you eyes to finding fish with your depthfinder. It also shows you several ways to make adjustments.
