Fished Wiess Lake on Monday. Man did I have a good time!emoBigsmile Went down to Pruetts Fish camp on Sunday afternoon. Got settelled in and tried fishing their dock. Not the best conditions to fish that day but I was ready to test out the waters. I decided to use two rods (big mistake) one with a minnow just floating about 15 feet from the dock and the other with a tube jig under a float on a slow troll over some brush. I decided to change colors on the tube jig So I put my minnow rod underneth my foot so nothing would happen to it. I was in the process of fixing the jig when disaster struck in the form of a humongous fish decided he wanted my rod more than I did. emoHoppingmad That just messed up my day. It was a cheep rod, but I loved that rod.
Monday made up for my stolen rod. We went out with a guide Donnie Buttler and we had 30 keepers by lunch. It was windy cold and rainy THe temp was droping fast. My wife wanted to go back in so we went back to Pruetts dock and let her go back to our cabin. Donnie & I decided we would go back and try for some more. The conditions got worse. Water temp went below 52 degrees, it was raining hard and getting colder. We managed 15 more keepers and decided to quit when it started lightning. We did manage 3 fish that were over 2 lbs. The biggest was 2 1/2 lbs. All in all it was a lot of fun.

The guide charges $225.00. Thats for eight hours on the water. We stayed on Cowen Creek. The side that Pruetts is on. We were never more than a mile away from the boat dock. We cris crossed the creek channel. The fish were holding in 10 feet of water. We used two 1/32 oz tube jugs red & white, and a tri-colored black/blue & white. When we frist started we only fished with the bare jigs. But as conditions got worse we started putting crappie nibbles on the hooks. That help a lot. We trolled about two hundred feet behind the boat. When ever a boat passes over a school the all would go to the bottom. After you got far enough away they would rise up to their holding point and strike better. If you trolled 100 feet or less you did not get hardly any strikes. Donnie (the guide) says that next month he will be fishing the stumps. He says he has over 2,000 stumps marked on his GPS. He said that when he fishes the stumps the fish size are much bigger. Many more 12 inch or bigger fish. I hope to go again with him. I have to be honest Pruetts is not the Holiday Inn but it is clean & functional and they are nice people and have a great fish cleaning house.

I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS THE SAME ROD YOUR TALKING ABOUT BUT MAYBE THIS WILL HELP YOUR LOSS.......WE WERE DOWN THERE SATURDAY FISHING A TOURN......A LITTLE BOY WAS IN THE PARKING LOT ALL EXCITED...(VERY EXCITED).....HE HAD CAUGHT A ROD A REEL THAT STILL HAD AN OLD PRICE TAG ON THE ROD.....THER WAS ANOTHER FISHERMAN THERE TRYING TO HELP HIM, LOOKING FOR SOME REEL OIL....I GAVE THEM SOME OF MY OIL....THE BOY DIDN'T HAVE A ROD OF HIS OWN....IF THIS WAS THE SAME ROD YOU MADE A LITTLE BOY EXTREMELY HAPPY.....
WE CAN IN 2ND PLACE ....WE CAUGHT ALL OF OUR FISH ON SPINNER BAITS IN THE MORNING AND SHAD CRANK BAITS IN THE AFTERNOON

It couldnt have been mine. I lost mine on Sunday. I sure do like to see those kids get excited about something like that. More than likley it was one of those big catfish. From what I was told they take all the leftover fish parts (from the fish cleaning house) and dump them in the same place every day and they pull out 20 lb plus catfish all the time in that little cove, They also pull out a lot of rods & reels!emoThumbsup
