I'm glad to see that the CFF verse of the day is from the NIV. (thanks)

I'm a NIV user myself. But I've been racked over the coals time and time again about not using KJV.

I've heard all of the pro's and con's on both sides of this discussion. Personally think this discussion should stay out of Church but the devil just want let it.

I was just wandering what some of the Fisherman's point of view is on this subject.

and if you don't mind let me know your age and now long you have been a Christain....

I'm 53, was saved around age 11, but didn't really start living for Christ the way I should untill I was 33 years old.

i like the NIV study bible,it helps me to better understand what i'm reading,,all the "ya's and na's" IN KJV gets confusing for me,,,as long as the HOLY SPIRIT,and as long it's GOD word, what ever bible leads you to understand his word,,i'd say thats it.i'm 52,retired,JESUS called me 5 years ago,JESUS freed me from addictions, and what i thought seemed to be a good life,in a blink of a eye,,,,i just never knew how much he loves all of us! thank you JESUS!!!

Im 42, and was saved at age 15. But like you I didn't really live for Christ till my late 20's. I grew up reading (atleast trying to read) the KJV as the son of a pastor. I always was told that I didn't ask God for understanding this version and wasn't a good Christian because I didn't understand it. I received a NCV (New Century Version) Bible as a gift several years ago and it changed my world. I actually can read it and understand everything. To think of all those years not understanding completley God's word is heartbreaking. To live like Christ, we must read and put into life the Word of God. I also have a NIV and probably use it the most (even have it on my Blackberry). If we truly want to read the Bible as written we would have to learn Hebrew, Greeek, and Latin, thank God He brought us scholars that translate these books. In my opinion, it isn't as much as the version as the message and what Jesus called us to be: Matthew 4:19. So I say, what ever version someone will read God will use in their lives to make a change, His word doesn't go out void. I just think it is funny that we as Christians take the time to argue over a version of the Bible in churches when there are so many lost in our world. I know what you mean about being racked over the coals at church, but I just smile and tell them I can read the NIV and understand or I can pretend to read the KJV and not grow. Just my opinion, God bless.

I am an crusty old fart, curmudgeon of 60 years this March. I am a member and attend City Church on Lee Hwy , Pastor mike Chapman. To each his own, But I want to hear and read the KJV. Some others {younger most likely} like and want the NIV. Which ever you comprehend best, go for it! It's just like a fishing rod. I may not be like your very best favorite! That's why they make is vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate ice cream!? Everybody is different!

I heard a visiting preacher,

tell the congregation that if we did not understand the KJV,

that we were not close to God.

and we were stupid if we have to read any thing else.

That the KJV was the only true version of the Bible......Guess what, I didn't go back to hear him preach any more.

I am 38(about to be 39) years old, I was in church off and on from a young age, mostly off. Jan. will be 2 years I have been living my life for God and it has been the best 2 years of my life. As for me I read a Holoman Christian Standard Bible. I find it to be as close to the KJV in translation as possible. My Pastor is a teaching Pastor and will always teach from several different translation as well as the Greek and Hebrew translations of many words and I find the HCS translation to always be spot on. As far as the KJV being the only true version I think that preacher needs to research the Geneva Bible as well as the history of the KJV..... I always have my HCS and KJV to reference each other when I am studying the Word.

age 45 this month christain for many years but didn't start livin it till in my early thirtys, i read kjv and nkjv, also the niv, but one must be very careful reading these new translation, some of the words are left out of the oringinal text, take for example mary gave birth to a child in my niv that is what it says but in king james it says the virgin mary, which to many doen't mean to much but to a christain it does because mary was overshadowed by the holy spirit and became with child. one must remember that the bible kjv was also translated, but it is the one that is close to the original text from the hebrew and greek, i also us blue letter bible web site which also has the hebrew and greek text and the meaning of each word. just my 2 cents.

Just my 2 cents but I do believe the King James Version was Holt Spirit driven and has stood the test of time although there was interpretation misques it still has helped save alot of souls . As far as the NIV I have heard alot of bad things which I really don't know if it is true but I think you really need to reserch who was behind the revision of the bible . All you have to do is go to the internet and pray about it . As far as the KJV I believe it was not meant to be it would have fallen by the wayside . Read the book of Acts 5 : 28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
