My son and I fished the Rusty White Challenge Saturday. First, I want to say what a pleasure it was to get to meet and talk to Rusty and his right-hand man, Theo. A couple of true gentlemen that walk the walk when it comes to helping the less fortunate.
We made a short run down river to an offshore area that had some sparse grass and my son caught our first fish at 7:15 on a top toad. She was big fish for the tournament at 6.58 pounds. Made several moves and had 4 fish in the box by 10:00 AM crawling a frog across the grass. The bites were few and far between but the fish were crushing the bait. Then the bite completely stopped for us. Finally put keeper #5 in the boat at 2:15. We only boated 6 fish all day but 5 were keepers. Ended the day with 17.48 pounds for first place and big fish.
