fishing at the dam?

Anyone take their yaks out to the dam (chick side) I've been itching to try and catch my good trophy cat from my yak...any thoughts or suggestions?

Been there several times in mine. If you find what they are eating that day, you can catch some good ones there.

Does it not worry you guys to fish the dam in a kayak? Maybe I'm just a scaredy-cat or is there a particular spot safe from the turbulence (if the generators did kick on)? Like behind the coffer dam?? I just worry about it pulling me in and ruining my day!!

Side note, how's the N. Chickamauga Creek? I've always wanted to check it out...

I haven't gone near it in my kayak, but I have been close to it a couple of times in a bass boat. I am pretty sure a siren goes off before anything like that happens at the dam. but not experienced. I have to wonder, can I paddle fast enough to get away from the dam if that siren goes off.

I stay in the sloughs in my kayak, F all that lol

They are talking about kayak fishing ABOVE the dam. Good cats there too, and safe.

I think I'ma try it soon got me a new yak that's a lot more stable so I'll probably Def go if anyone's want to brave it with me

If you do decide to fish the lower side, (Nickajack side) You can call 1-800-238-2264, then pick option 4 for list of Dams. here you can check generation schedule of the dam you are going to be below. for the most part they run pretty close to schedule, though occasionally they will run off schedule. though to answer your question, almost all dams and rivers do have a siren to go off but the warning is not much! hope this helps.
