i am planning on going to the beach in a couple of days... i remember when i was little i saw a man catching fish from the beach,,... i was wondering if anyone had any good tips or suggestions as far as lures/bait, or technique..or whatever i could do to maybe catch a few...

thanks.

Get a big cheap surf casting rod at a local outfitter when you get there. Walmart near the beach (they are always near the beach) would be a good choice. Then look for where they sell live or fresh shrimp. Use shrimp unless you can throw a net and catch some mullet minnows or something of the like. Most small baitfish are fairgame in the ocean! Shrimp are pretty inexpensive and catch about everything known to man.... as you'll usually catch some more quality fish on the live mullet minnows, at least that's been my experience. Use 15lb line and about a 2oz sinker set up. Don't mix the saltwater gear with your freshwater gear and if you do rinse it with the hose really good. Or you'll find out the difference in freshwater tackle and saltwater tackle in a hurry... Good luck. If you are having NO LUCK blood worms always catch something, but they are usually $10/dozen at the shore or piers...

a plug taht one of the locals suggested to me last time i was there was called a Gotcha its pencil looking lure works like a jerk bait caught a few whitening i believe there were and a few others that i could not tell ya what they were also adding to the N.A. if you use freshwater tackle REEL MAGIC lots of it but i would opt. for the el cheapo once i got there...........Good Luck Man!!!

It all depends on where you are going. In SW Florida there are snook on the beach. Tarpon can be caught on the beach in some areas too. There are lots of other species too. If you have a kayak I would take it. There are great areas to fish in most areas that are accessible by kayak but not by walking. A good source of info is Florida Sportsman Magizine and it has info about all of the areas of Florida. You can get that magazine in most book stores. Their website is a great place to get good local info too and I have met guys on that site that invited me to fish on their boat too or to take me to where they had been catching fish by kayak. Here's a link to the general forum area: http://outdoorsbest.zeroforum.com/zeromain?id=1

Just ask some questions and you will probably get some good answers. The site is much like our site in that they share a lot of info.

Do let us know where on the beach you will be going and more specific info will get back to you.
