Hey guys what do you think is the best time of the year to get a guide to teach you how to find fish? Also do you think they will really show you their good spots knowing you are going to come back and fish them?.
Depends on what time of year you struggle finding fish. As for fishing holes, there are enough areas on the lake that hold quality fish, they don’t always have to rely on personal honey holes. I have had guided trips in October, February, and May. May was hands down the best.

As for me (www.ScenicCityFishing.com) part of the reason I started guiding was to share the abundant resources we are blessed with. I tell every client that they are more than welcome to come back and fish anywhere I take them anytime they want. I only ask one thing in return - I ask that if they do fish an area (or a technique) I showed them that they share a fishing report with me on how they did.
After 13 years guiding, I now have numerous clients who frequently share information with me. I can only be one place at a time so it really helps me a LOT to have more eyeballs on the water. I've gotten back whatever I've given tenfold.
All that said, I guide primarily for catfish and crappie (during the Spring). I have several guide partners (bass & catfish). As far as I know they operate by the same principal. None of us have ever come to regret sharing any of our so-called "secrets" with anyone.
But in closing I will also say that with today's advanced mapping available to virtually everyone, there really are no secrets out there. It's all about timing, expertise on the proper presentation at the right time and time spent on the water. That is truly the best thing guides have over other folks - they're simply on the water a lot more.
