I know there have been several posts on here about knots..and untill the other day I have always tied a palomar knot...which is a VERY strong knot that I will continue to use...but the other day while fishing with Drumking..he showed me how to tie the Uni-Knot. When I got home I started playing around with it and looked up other ways to use it and I tell you I am impressed to say the least with this knot. This is old news to alot of you but Im sure to others like me ( who have always tied a simple clinch knot) this is GREAT news. You can also use tthis knot to tie 2 lines together...you can use it as a loop knot...or even snell a hook with it. Im sure there are other ways to use that I dont know about so If any of you other guys know other ways to use it...chime in and let us know. I did some testing with it and compared breaking points to other knots and it actually was stronger than the palomar knot. Also the other day on the Blue Barge trip Eric showed us how to snell a hook and make a leader...and that is also a very stong knot. I guess Im gonna experment a liitle tieing the uni and the snell that Eric showed us and see which I like to use in different situations. Im still very new at knot tieing so feel free to chime in and share which knot you feel is the best ...and WHY!!

I've always used the old palomar and improved clinch knots, depending upon the lure. Old dog, new trick kind of thing, I guess

...plus they are simple, quick, and dependable.</p>

I have heard a lot of good things about the uni-knot, and planned on checking it out. Very helpful video.

Can't wait to try it out...maybe I'll go home and re-tie all of my rods!

I see that I need to make a video tying this knot. This guy made it look so hard, when it is really so easy. Anyone know how to get a video posted?

I use the uni for braid and for line to line and the palomar for everything else. I do some snelling when I don't have anything else to do and on hooks that have an offset bend in the eye.

The palomar knot has never let me down. I can tie one without looking which helps while fishing at night. I will tie a Rapala knot to my Pointers and Husky Jerks however.

Ive been tieing knots all week at work in my slack time and testing them. So far I have yet to break the uni knot or the palomar knot ...at the knot itself. Both are VERY strong knots and both have a place in my arsenal of fishing knots for sure!!!!

Wade you way up on me with all these knots!

I have always used a simple clinch, and back in the summer Eric showed me the snell that I use the same way he does. I also use a double surgens knot for loops. Thats all I know, and I guess I better start learning something new huh? Although being with a ride on the water frees up a lot of time to study.....

I like using the palomar when possible but with small line ties you can't get a double line through and the uni is the easiest on older eys. You don't have to be able to see at all or at least very little and it takes less hand dexterity too. When you can get a loop through they eye, use the palomar but if you can only get a single through, use the uni.
