I had some fishing line around my prop. I went out to put my batteries on charge and I smelled gear lube. There was a puddle under my lower unit. Not alot. I pulled my prop off and there was line wrapped around the shaft behind the thrush washer. I got it out. Do I need to check the loler unit for water? Then what? replace the seal??? anyone had this problem?

Thanks,
Mikie

Don't run it. If you see L/U fluid on the ground, you almost certainly have water in the L/U. Unless you have the special tools and expertise to change the seals, it's a job best left to a good marine tech. If it's going to be a while before you can get it in, wouldn't be a bad idea to drain the contaminated fluid out of the L/U and replace it with fresh fluid. Good thing you caught it in the driveway.

Yea get it checked out before you go again to the lake because it will cost allot more if it's not right. And slap the next guy you see throw his line overboard instead of putting it in the trash where it belongs!

I would not run that engine under any circumstances until I had it checked out,I had the same thing happen to last year, and it cost my Insurance $2,000.00 dollars to replace the lower unit.best to be sure, than sorry Hope the best for you! emoGeezer
