With this winter being a milder one than what we have experienced in many years, I was thinking that the fishing at Sloppy Floyd would be kinda messed up, and that the usual places where the bass would be hanging out wouldn't hold any fish.

Well, since I had the extra $$$, I stopped by Wal-Mart to purchase my old faithful Smithwick Suspending Rattling Rogue, in "clown", and ended up buying 2 of one "clown" color that had produced, 2 of another "clown" color that had produced, 2 crankbaits, and a few Bitsy Flip jigs.

I proceeded to go out to Sloppy Floyd, and fish the same rock "table" that has held fish every winter for the last 3 that I have fished that spot.

The first day, I managed to get 1 bite.................and she was 3.5 lbs and was released. Nothing else came from there on that day.

I went back a week later, and caught 3 fish, all between 1-3 lbs., and missed 2 others. That's all that produced that day.

I went back the next day, just to see how quickly the bass were replenishing............and I ended up catching 3 bass, all between 1-2.5 lbs., and the 2.5 lbs. went to a fellow who was looking for some fish to fry up.

I haven't been back out there since Christmas Eve day...............and with the rain that we have had coming in lately, I am looking forward to seeing what January will hold on Sloppy Floyd.

This is the 2.5 lbs. bass that I gave to the fellow. I know, looking at it like this, it doesn't look that big, but the gut on this bass was immense for the length that it was.

John I used to bass fish Sloppy Floyd Lakes a few years back and I found that in colder weather the bass there really liked tiny baits moving real slow. We used to go there to get some fryers and would leave with a limit nearly every time all caught on 1" twisters of various colors on 1/64 or 1/32 heads.
