Terry and I finally got together today for about 4 hours of fishing. We were looking for Crappie and although we caught a few, they mainly didn't want to play very much in the middle of the day. We ended up with 11 nice keepers, 6 throwbacks, 10 yellow bass, 2 spotted bass, 2 bluegills, 1 redeye, and 1 little perch of some sort. Oh, yea, I caught 2 Tenness Tarpons (skipjacks) also. One tiny LM Bass was the final fish of the day. Started having boat motor trouble, so we just quit.

I am having a fuel delivery problem and it is a puzzlement. I have replaced the gas lines and bulb, put the thing in the shop for 3 days a couple of weeks ago, and the thing is still acting up. Any ideas out there? Oh, it's going back to Superior Marine in a few minutes.

Our fish were caught deep and on panfish assassins and stingers. 1/32 oz bleeding hook jigs and fished very slowly. Almost dead sticking at times.

The fellowship with Terry was worth the trip. We wanted to catch more crappie, but we had a blast together. We're gonna do this again someday.

Fun fun fun ... nice 4 hour fishing trip. Looks like the two of you are in the middle of the ocean. Someone is better at taking pictures than I was huh Drumking? :)

Good job ..

Well folks I gotta say if you've not been fishing with Mr. Drumking you don't know what you are missing! He is a great guy, lots of fun to talk to, and has as much passion for fishing as I do. Above all he taught me things today that I would have never thought of concerning crappie fishing. We caught a mix bag of fish but we caught quality fish. The spot he had was a lot bigger than it looks in the pic. I can honestly say that he had me sweating trying to keep up with him fishing! He is certainly deadly with a rod and reel.

We had some engine trouble and had to call the trip a few hours early but we came out with a nice mess of fish just the same. It was nice to see the fisherman from Ngafisherman at the ramp. Thanks again for letting me tag along Drumking! I had a blast!

Yep, those look like some real slabs guys. I'm sorry to hear about your engine trouble DK. Let's hope that you can get to the bottom of it soon.

Before this year I don't think that I had ever caught a crappie bigger than about a pound and a quarter, max. This year I have caught two that were pushing or over 3 pounds and really feel blessed to be able to get them. I think that what has been the key is fishing very slowly with a very light lure, only 1/32oz and fishing fairly deep with them. I think that the 3 lber came in greater than 8 feet of water and the 2 3/4 came in at least 7 feet and probably in much deeper over sunken brush. Deep water and current were present when both were caught even though it wasn't fast current. One was in the Wolftever creek and one was on the main lake but both were not far from the channel flow. Both were caught in areas where I knew that there had been heavy fishing pressure but because of the very slow presentation and depth that the fish were holding they fell to my panfish assassin. In fact, after talking with DK yesterday I figured out that it was he who was fishing the spot where I caught the big 'un yesterday before I went to the spot. I never would have fished this way without the teaching from DK and the knowledge that I have gleaned from talking with him while fishing. He is a great teacher and is really a blessing to be with. I'm glad that you got to spend some time with him today FnF. I am looking forward to fishing with him again soon.

DK, have you got a hole in your diaphragm ...carb.

My 4-stroke is injector not carbed. It is probably a very minor problem. Adam thinks that it may be the fitting on top of the tank. Or, the cannister with the valve that controls the fuel to the engine. The engine is not missing, just starved for gasoline. (And it had nearly a full tank)

Anyhow, Wanda and I are leaving town for a few days. Going to Louisiana to see son-in-law, daughter, 3 grands, and generally just have a good time. I'm sure that all the black crappie in the river are glad to hear that. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Jmax, maybe you ought to start guiding. A man shouldn't work at something that he doesn't love to do and you certainly love to fish. Why don't you make that your occupation? Of course, if you are worried about burnout????

I love to fish, but I wouldn't guide for a minute (too much pressure). It is pressure enough when I take some of you guys and try to show you how to and the fish don't cooperate. I get the feeling sometimes that I'm about 3/4 dumb when it comes to fishing, then there are days like the times that I have taken Polo out. Do you realize, Polo, that I have only taken you Crappie fishing twice and we have caught 61 keepers the first time and around 50 the second time? I take Fnf and we only manage 11 keepers. Go figure? I have taken 2jigs twice and we haven't caught a fish yet, but I think that 2jigs is a jinx! emoBigsmile emoPoke emoGeezer

The secret to DK's success has been revealed gang. Check out the cup holder in the first pic ... DK has WD-40 for breakfast instead of coffee! Now I know what I've been doing wrong. From now on I'll stop on the way to the lake and pick up a piping hot can of WD-40.

Glad you guys finally made it out together.

RR, the WD-40 is for his old aches and pains. His joints are maturing faster than his brain....thank goodness.

That's some nice crappie. Sorry to hear about the boat. Iv'e had trouble out of the vent screw on a gas tank before. It was starving the engine. The fix was simple for that one, (luckily) -I got new 6 gal. tank and it worked fine.

I thought that we were being sneaky with the pics so as not to show where we were fishing. Little did I know that I was giving away one of my hottest tips. WD-40 does work really good on elbows, wrists, knees, ankles and fishing line. I even squirt it on catfish bait and it works really good for those blues. Course, they are as dumb as a box of rocks. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Nice catch guys, sure wish I could wet a line, but my broken foot is keeping me at home. King I had a fuel problem last summer, the pickup tube in tank had become curved, and when gas sloched around it would suck some air and run rough, the fix was easy once i figured out the problem.I have been stuck at home to long, need to wet a line soon!!!!!!

Tileman I'm sorry to hear about the foot. Hope it heals up soon and you can get out there. Springs is here and the fish are really beginning to get aggressive. Take care of yourself and we'll see you on the lake soon.
