Fished Carters from 7:30 am -5:30 pm yesterday. Wanted to see how the float n fly bite was. That's all we threw all day. Tracy has never caught a big spot and has never throw a fly and I had been telling how much fun it was. First stop and within 10 minutes, he's already hooked up ! Wasn't a toad but a solid 2.5lber. So check number one off the list. He's now caught a fish on a fly. Moved to the second stop. Took a little bit, but then it was my turn. I caught a 4.5lber and a 3lber on back to back casts. Moved down the bank some and my float sinks nice and slow. Got another 3 lber. moved to our 3rd spot and Tracy gets a 3lber. On down the bank again and we both catch some nice 2lbers. Then I get my second 4lber. Move to our last spot for the day , Tracy casts out and immediately his float sinks out of sight ! Sets the hook and he got to feel how a big spot fights on 8lb line ! It peeled drag forever, finally get her in the net and its his personal best. 4lbs. That was it for the day. Caught about a dozen over all. No dinks. All good size, just no true giants. Our best 5 was 18lbs give or take some ounces. But , again I've made a believer with the float n fly. Said he's going to buy him a set up today. :) I've tried to post pictures, but can't seem to resize them right. If anyone is good at it and wants to post them for me, I can text them to you.

Sure sounds like fun. I've been a Georgia resident all my life and I've never fished down there. I need to visit that lake some time. Glad the spots cooperated with you and its always nice to make a believer out of a first timer.

Were you throwing fly's or plastics if you don't mind me asking? I do like the f-n-f, but haven't got mine out yet this year. Maybe it's time!!!! Thanks for sharing

I have tried the FNF a few times at Carters and Parksville and have yet to get a bite. I almost went the other day and talked myself into a private lake trip instead. 18lbs at Carters is a huge bag. I used to fish a lot of tourneys there years ago and I never came close to that. Great job.

Thanks ! On Carters the fly bite doesn't last long . Maybe a month , so it can be tough with a fly at times . Parksville on the other hand is much easier to catch em on a fly . Probably not the over all quality , but I've caught the 3 biggest spots ( well, 2 spots and one mean mouth) of my life on Parksville and all were on a fly . When the fly bite is good one on Parksville , it's pretty easy to land 20 spots . It's fun !</p>

Hopefully this works

You're killin' me! emoBang

I haven't gotten in float/fly mode yet ... just too much other stuff going on for me. But I'll be there in January.

I'm really impressed to see you're smackin' 'em. I always "assumed" it was primarily a really cold weather/water bite... but obviously it works in winter no matter how cold/cool. Thanks for sharing. emoThumbsup

I do think it's better when the water gets to at least 50 degrees, but I can usually get em to nibble some when the water is in the mid 50's. It was 56 everywhere on Carters Sunday.

Interesting... that's warmer than Chickamauga. I saw 52's everywhere yesterday (in main channel).

It takes Carters longer to cool down and heat up. I'm assuming it's a depth thing. Mr. Bartenfield could probably give a better reason.

Most tributary lakes up here around Knoxville stay warmer longer also. Too slow to cool off quickly

Congrats on the spots.... Has the lake turned over yet on Carters? Fished last week on the Holler and the Water temp was around 56 and the fishing was ok but will get a lot better when the Lake turns over and the temps get around around 50.

How do you guys target these fish? Are they suspended off points, near current or under bait fish! Carters has always been difficult for me but then pretty much all fishing has been difficult at times.
