-Tale of the BankBeater-
I took some time off work to chase a trophy of any kind for the new year. I started with some shiners and throwing crappie jigs to stay busy. After a complete tackle overhaul I had hoped to have a day. I was lucky enough in hindsight to get two smaller bass with the shiners along with a big blue cat over the course of 5 hrs over two days from the dock. I caught a 11 in perch on a crappie jig . That catch was linked in that 5 hr window . I tried Harrison bay state park the next day and was excited to see active bait but even after wading in and throwing everything for two hours the only thing I had to show was a new boo yah one knocker in Rayburn red from a lil bush (Bank Beater Bonus ) .I stopped under the bridge and witnessed a nice crappie around 13 inches with jig . I tried Browns bridge the next day with no luck but got my license checked for the first time of the year .I did notice the next day At the same bridge there were a few folks catching bream and crappie from the road dropping to the piers. Load up the car and roll on to the next spot. I hit the creek thinking maybe in the cleaner water out of the current but just a a lost dink on a shiner. But I got my second license check of the year .At the ramp behind State I walked down and caught a stripe on my crappie jig and one on a small swimbait.
I observed a bass caught on swimbait around 2.5 lbs along with a guy catching small walleye and stripe at the ramp. The water was rough but small windows between wind gusts were productive. I did manage to at least catch a fish in 6 hrs per day . I got to find new structure and add some rock piles while getting a heavy dose of exercise which is good for a fat boy . I look forward to the next bite and hope you all do as well.
