I am member of a crappie board as well. My other fishin passion and they are good to eat too. Well one of the sponsors on the board is B-n-M poles. I got my hands on one of their float-n-fly rods. I have trip scheduled for the end of the month to Dale Hollow with some guys from work to fish for smallies over there. So I went below the dam at Watts Bar to get the hang of casting this rod with 8 to 14' of line out. I did and the rod did pretty good. I caught a 4 lb large mouth, about 10 1/2 " crappie and a huge shellcracker on it. It did reall well with the large mouth. Just thought I would pass the word on the rod on to those that would like a rod for the technique but don't want to spend alot on one. I think they cost abot $50 or so. Cork handlke with weights on the end to help balance it. Or you can go to there site and check it out. Just wanted to pass this along to you.

I'm a St. Croix fan myself... but can't afford many of those. Thanks for tip... more importantly, I want to hear how you do on Dale Hollow? Here's a photo from a couple of fish I caught on my last float-n-fly trip up there.

Hey, those sure are some gems! Rsimms, what kind of structure were you fishing? Were your floats weighted at all? Any suggestions on color that seem to produce fish? Still need to give that a try sometime this winter!

We were fishing secondary points.... no weight on floats. Folks I've talked to say weighted floats just won't give jigs the same action. Variety of colors... I think those two come on 1/16th oz. jigs, mixture of red & white hair. Had been tied by my fishing partner Larry Self. Jim Miller, a TWRA Wildlife Law Enforcement Supervisor first taught me the joys of float'n fly. Larry Self, an outdoor writer in Greeneville, TN helped speed the lessons along.
