Hey guys I just wanted to tell you about the FLW college fishing from an anglers point of view. This is the coolest thing that has happened in the sport of bass fishing. FLW is the leader for collegiate fishing and to tell you the truth BASS better step up their game! Some of you may recognize my signature my partner and I won the tournament this past weekend. Our experience was incredible. We showed up and went fishing, they took care of everything else. We didn't have to worry about dragging a boat from south Georgia or navigating the lake once we got there. And to top it all off after they gave our school and club $10,000 and then handed us a $60 check apiece for gas money! This is the 2nd time I have qualified for regionals last year I qualified at Lake Okeechobee with a different partner. They really are a standout organization. The Florida team got to compete in the Forrest Wood Cup! Since we made the top 5 we are now qualified to compete in the south east regional tournment on Lake Monroe in October. For those of you who don't know the regional works a bit different. 1st no boat driver volunteers FLW/Ranger supplt the field of 20 with Z520s and gives us the keys! (If they had keys) Each boat has an observer. 2nd the winning team receives a ranger boat and $25,000. And the top 5 qualify for the national championship in which the winner recieves a Chevy Tahoe and a Z520 + $50,000 and in my opinion the coolest thing of all get to fish in the Cup!
Our day didn't start out so great. We thought (like everyone else) that we would be fishing grass but that soon ended and we went to one of my offshore brush piles and mined it for everything it was worth. We fished the same 100 yard stretch for 8 hours! and caught fish the entire time! All the fish were caught on C-rigs using 1.5 ounce Tru-Tungsten weights (http://www.tru-tungsten.com/) rigged with zoom lizards (http://zoombait.com/) and 1 ounce picasso fantasy football jigs (http://www.picassooutdoors.com/cart.php) using a zoom super hog for a trailer. One thing that really helped throwing those huge baits was my Big Bear fishing rod (http://www.bigbearfishingrods.com/ProductCart/pc/home.asp) we were using the 7'6" heavy rod it was the original big bear series. The sensitivity on those rods is incredible! It has the back bone to chunk that big tru tungsten weight and the sensitivity to feel those subtle bites. Go check out bigbearfishingrods.com pick up a couple and tell them I sent you!
Again I want to thank FLW Outdoors for being such a terrific organization, Kevin Hunt, All of our sponsors, the National Guard for everything, not just the National Guard but all branches of our armed forces for the tremendous sacrifices they make just so we can enjoy this sport we all love.
