Well, to start off let me say we had a really fun night , i got to teach Zane a few tricks and new baits that he hadn't used at night. We hit our first spot in a slack water area close to current and started catching fish right off the bat, only problem was they were either short or the wrong species, I had a Gar on a square-bill and Zane had a stripe on a jerk-bait, we kept casting switching between plastics and cranks before dark. Zane boated the first keeper around 9:30 i follow right behind him with our second. we continue to fish this area until 11:30 but all we could get were shorts, i decide to make a move and leave biting fish to try to find bigger fish, we make a short run and start catching right off the bat (all shorts) Zane yells i have a one and i grab the net he says it feels good, I'm watching his line and it looks funny its spinning" i tell him i think he has a cat but nope i was wrong he caught a walleye first one i have seen in a very long time. we go back to fishing and i get a hit and set the hook, i can fell the head-shake and then snap , well crap so i retie and go again a few minutes later the same thing happens. by this time it about 1Am i say lets make one more move, we pull up to our 3rd spot and again we start catching fish but all short, i grab a big worm ad throw it out and "BAM" yes this is it..i tell Zane to get the net this is the one we are looking for then snap, well crap....We head to the weigh in with 2 fish, finish with 4 something - a 1lb penalty for a dead fish , the first keeper Zane had caught had been gut hooked, no a whole lot we could do, tried the old sprite trick and had G Juice in the live-well still didn't matter. All in all we had a fun night probably caught 40-50 fish we were in the right areas and had the bites just didn't retie enough "note to self" emoBang emoBang emoBang when fishing the river retie often". Congrats to the winners and see you at the next one. </p>

Thanks for the report Ken. We both lost big fish in the last week down there due to broken lines. Taking the time to retie is the hardest thing to do, especially when you are battling current and/or on fish.

Nice report. Sounds like some bad luck factored in to your evening out there. That river can be hard on fishing line. 40 or 50 fish is a lot of action though.
