I told Charlie before we started that it was going to be a tough night and that if we could find 3 keepers I felt like we would have a chance. We hit our first area and before dark we have 2 keepers in the boat a 12 in spot and keeper lm. We make several moves from right at dark until after midnight, and finally and only caught 6-7 short fish, I tell Charlie there is an area that I haven’t fished in years and let’s go check it out, Charlie catches a small fish on a spinner bait right off the bat. And I said maybe they are here, the next cast I throw out and my line starts running and I can’t catch up too it by the time I do fish is gone still feeling good about the area and I cast and again line starts moving I set the hook and Charles nets #3 for us we are thinking we have maybe 6lbs I said if we can cull the spot we might have a chance, I look down and it’s 01:15 we make a few more cast and then the same thing happens line starts moving as soon as it hits the water and I set the hook, this fish comes straight up and I knew it was a better fish Charlie is quick with the net and we cull the little spot, I think we have between 9 and 9 1/2 lbs I tell Charlie I think we have a chance not sure it’s enough to win but it could be close. It’s 01:39 and we fish just a few more cast before heading in. We weigh in and have 10:5 something I think it was 10:56 and the best fish was right at 5lbs, we we were feeling really good until Rusty and Brian weighted in, they had almost 15 lbs , we finished second on a very tough night. All fish but 1 were caught on plastics in 5-10.ft, wr threw a bunch of other baits during the night but other than the one small fish on the spinner bait we couldn’t get bit on anything other than TX rig plastics. Congrats to Rusty and Brian for a nice nice bag and to Mark and his partner for the large small mouth 5.5 lbs that was a pretty fish. See everyone at the next one.
