Last year i had a lot of luck using Top Water Frogs. Well, I got a lot of strikes. But i had trouble landing them. I was thinking this year I might try a 6' heavy action rod and spool 16 lbs florocarcon line for the frog, think this will give me better hook setting. what are the negatives for the above rig and is there something else I should try? i did improve some last year by being more patient after the initial explosion, but still wasn't landing as many as I would like to.

Thanks for you answers!

Yep, I like to use my FA reconditioned, 15 year old flippin stick. Its 7.5' and weighs a ton, but it'll stick a hook deep. The braid is a must IMO.

I've tried Power Pro, Stren, Spiderwire, Cabelas ripcord, Fireline and Sufix in the last 5 years and I am going to buy 1200 yards of Sufix 30lbs test in the next week or so. The thing about braid is that you either have to not set the hook as hard (don't have to reel all the slack up and give it everything you've got) or set your drag a little looser. I uses it for just about everything - crankbaits, spinnerbait, traps, jigs, tubes, frogs, and topwater. I don't use it with anything that uses a texas rig with a sliding weight, wears out the line to fast. Some people love it and some people hate it. You will have to try some for yourself and see if it works for you.

7 foot rod with fairly heavy action. I use 20 lb braid. Power Pro is my favorite and I use it for just about everything. When putting mine on, I always spray a rag really, really heavy with silicone and run the line through it as I am putting it on the reel. It makes a huge difference. The braid will pull their jaws off if you aren't careful. I've jerked some pretty good fish right out of the water using it.
