Hey I was digging through an old box of stuff I left at my moms house .. when I cam across a 1990 Program Guide from the Pro Am tx in 1990 , every one is always talkng about how much better the TX weigh ins where back in the grass days .. on the Chick .. well by the weights of the fish caught each day wasn't any better in 1990 than it is today .. and Ive seen weigh ins lately that had bigger sacs than they had in 1990.. even by the top pros if anyone wants me to scan it and post it let me know. I was an a official observer on the tx .. it was cool to find this again

Winner was Denny Brauer 4 day total 72.11 Denny had the bigest one day total of 22lbs 6 oz , most days where 6 -12 lb sacs
Big Bass for tx was Fish Fishburne 8lb 11oz

THE GRASS WAS LONG GONE IN 1990, THE LAST BIG TOURN WITH GRASS WAS A HUNGRY FISHERMAN CIRCIT ON CHICK I FINISHED 3 RD WITH 58 LBS 10 OZ AND WON 1 OF THE 3 RANGER BOATS AND MOTORS GIVEN AWAY . THE WINNER HAD 72LBS, WHICH WAS JACK WADE FROM KNOXVILLE, IN 1988.

That is What I was Going to say about the grass you need to look for touneys in the early 80's if you would like I can post a picture of a stringer of my dad back then with a stringer of fish that where caught in a tourny back then

another thing Ive seen about tx in the 80s and b4 that Ive seen where not 5 fish limits like today .. Ive seen many 7 fish or more limits from earlier tourneys that make it look like they caught much bigger weights but if you take off the extra fish then the weights are closer to today .. all I was trying to say was that the grass is not the only key to bigger weights .. but more likely the key to being easier to find the bigger fish. I predict that 8-9 lb fish will be common on all major tourneys here on Chick in the next 5 yrs .. Ive seen the fish quality and numbers increasing since my first post on CFF maybe us original couple hundred CFF members are just getting better at finding fish on the lake our selves .. Ive just noticed this year that bigger fish are being caught in TX's and by non TX fishermen on Chick. I didnt move here until the Grass was gone aparently .. I moved here in 1989.
I grew up in WV and fished mostly large rivers very few lakes in my area of Northern WV.. So I my self fished the river more during the last 19 yrs here .. but in the last 2 yrs Ive slowly moved up above the dam .. and my own fish quality has improved .. but it seems that others are doing better as well on the lake than in yrs past since I moved here.
The forum has definitely improved my skills and learning of the lake too. If I could fish as much as I want .. Id be better than I am today

The florida strain that has been introduced may be why we are seeing some healthier bass now.

just a point of info Top Water ...Jack Wade will probably be at the Fishing Show in Knoxville this weekend....supporting his Ranger Sponsor I suppose .....He was there last year. Jack and I went to Powell High School together...long time ago. He`s still chasing the fish and is a lot of fun too shoot the bull with at the show. Had `em on the run at the Classic a couple years back on the first day. Still does real good every so often on the real Pro Circuits.

The Florida Bass are the reason for better weight and the awarness of the importance of conservation if you look at tournament results from the mid 90's you will see very low winning weights comared to now I remeber in March of 98 I won a T.R.Y. tournament with just over 13 lbs
