My daughter and I wanted some fresh fish this weekend so we decided to go to Fox Mtn (trout farm in Rising Fawn, Ga) for some nice rainbows. I rarely eat fish, but trout are an exception at least once a year. She caught only what we would eat in about 1/2 hour using corn - I even had to catch just one - and then they cleaned them for us.

They have a no-release rule, keep what you catch at $2.99/lb and provide cooler, towel, corn, pliers, and even a cane pole if you don't have a rod - plus the owners are just super nice people. It was about $25 for 7 trout, including cleaning and icing them down. Last year we saw a chef from a local restaurant pick up about 30-40 trout so we figured this is a pretty good deal considering that a single trout dish costs about $20 at this reataurant.

We salted, peppered, buttered-em up, and then placed them on a doubled piece of foil with knife holes all in it on top of some simmered charcoals for about 20 minutes with some wood chips added for smoke flavor. I liked the smoke flavor alright but I think it might have been even better without the chips...

Now I know this might not be real fishing to most, but my kids love to go there, it's more fun than going to the grocery store for fish, I love to grill, and it really makes for a great afternoon together.

RE: Fox Mtn Trout

Do you have directions or a phone # on how to get there? Did not know there was a fish farm there. My kids would love it :)

RE: Fox Mtn Trout

Fox Mountain Trout Farm is located on Puddin Ridge Road. To get there take the Rising Fawn exit 4 off Interstate 59 and head west (if you are going South, it is the exit right after Trenton - take the exit and go right for about 2.5 miles - the road turns into a dirt road after about a mile and the trout farm is on the left).

Call (256) 632-3194 for more information - Open Tuesday-Sunday, March 1-Labor Day. Open weekends only after Labor Day through closing date of November 1.

Thank you for the info...my kids would love this too. Do adults have to have a GA fishing license?

Great pics and info, thanks for passing it on.

I live in Rising Fawn, and have taken my kids many times there to catch a good meal. Put on a rooster tail or any other kind of inline spinner, and watch your kids have a blast. When I was a kid we used to fish in the creek downsteam and would catch a few that would get out now and then. I dont think you can do that now though. Definately worth the trip.

RE: Fox Mtn Trout

Ahh, the memories of the Trout farm. Which is about 15 mins from where I grew up. Many trips my dad and I made to the trout farm. I want to carry my girls down there, but I have been so busy with work that I need to take a day off.

Thanks for posting that report, I wasnt sure if it was still open or not been so long since I have been there.

One year me and my cousins went to Cherokee N.C. for opening day of trout season,we all split up and fished different parts of the river and agreed to meet at lunch.Long story short me and my younger cousin found a trout farm way up the river from where we fished that you could fish in and pay for what you caught. You should have seen the looks on our other cousins face when we came back with those football size brook trout! Classic! Yeah we got em on corn way up the river, almost couldn't land em they fought so hard!emoLaugh they still don't know the truth!
