My daughter and I wanted some fresh fish this weekend so we decided to go to Fox Mtn (trout farm in Rising Fawn, Ga) for some nice rainbows. I rarely eat fish, but trout are an exception at least once a year. She caught only what we would eat in about 1/2 hour using corn - I even had to catch just one - and then they cleaned them for us.
They have a no-release rule, keep what you catch at $2.99/lb and provide cooler, towel, corn, pliers, and even a cane pole if you don't have a rod - plus the owners are just super nice people. It was about $25 for 7 trout, including cleaning and icing them down. Last year we saw a chef from a local restaurant pick up about 30-40 trout so we figured this is a pretty good deal considering that a single trout dish costs about $20 at this reataurant.
We salted, peppered, buttered-em up, and then placed them on a doubled piece of foil with knife holes all in it on top of some simmered charcoals for about 20 minutes with some wood chips added for smoke flavor. I liked the smoke flavor alright but I think it might have been even better without the chips...
Now I know this might not be real fishing to most, but my kids love to go there, it's more fun than going to the grocery store for fish, I love to grill, and it really makes for a great afternoon together.
