Whywecatchsomany and I went below the dam last Friday and wound up with 9 smallmouth, 5 spot, and about 200lbs of drum all caught on jigs.

RE: Friday 27th report below chick dam

Way to go!!! Love seeing those pictures.
Sunday was an awesume day. Couldn't get out, like I always want to, but glad to see you were able too.

You're going to have to quit catching so many or there want be any left when I finaly get to go!!!

Thanks for the report whenwegoin - Nice smallmouth!

Were you bouncing the jig on the bottom on the drift or casting up to the bank?

Were they hitting in the morning or was it later in the day... I need to get out of work early one afternoon and get out there myself!

RE: Friday 27th report below chick dam

We were casting up the bank. We did catch twosmallmouth and 3 drum drifting and bouncing and the others came casting toward the banks.

Man, you guys sure are consistent, I'd love to go with you and see where and how you do it! Let me know if you ever have a spot open on your boat.

Okay, so don't invite me. Just kidding. I think that from what you guys have posted everyone here would like to see what you are doing. Envy is a tough thing. Let me know if you want to go catfish fishing or bass fishing with live bait this summer and I'll show you a bunch of fish too. Mark

Unfortunately I am one of those who only can go on an invitation because I do not own a boat. Fortunately I am whywecatchsomany's first choice. His boat is rather small for 3 to fish out of. It is a dark colored Alumacraft I believe. It has a Tohatsu motor if I am not mistaken. If you ever see us out anywhere stop and say hello. 99% of the time you will see us somewhere between Sequoyah and Chester Frost Park or below Chick dam.

He has been a couple of mornings this week. I have allowed work to get in my way of fishing this week. Sad. I'll have to tell him to post his results. I don't think he had a camera with him. Too bad is all I can say. He had a couple of good ones!!

RE: Friday 27th report below chick dam

What size jig-head are you guys using? I just spent a couple hours on the bank below Robinson's Bridge and only managed 1 smallie and 1 spot. I used a rootbeer/green pepper Fat Albert grub and the only jig-heads I had on me were 1/4oz. Too heavy?

RE: Friday 27th report below chick dam

Thanks...1/4oz was tough to keep out of the rocks with the current.

RE: Friday 27th report below chick dam

Man, I have heard about the smallmouth below the dam for a couple of years now but I've never been down there, I GOTTA get down there! How long does this usually last?

RE: Friday 27th report below chick dam

Ive never fished below the chick dam either. After hearing about these nice smallmouth, Im going to have to make a trip down there.

RE: Friday 27th report below chick dam

Don't know how long it lasts. This is the first year that we have fished it before so who knows. I would think it would last all year. Granted they may go to different spots, but they will be there. One word of caution, if they are not generating some current, you can probably stay home or fish for something else.

Lots were caught this past late summer and early fall...then they disappeared...now they seem to be back. Crankbaits were the way to go over the summer and fall. Anyone know what the water temps have been this past week?
