The water temp for this weekend was 92 and there were quite a few bass that died from it at the weigh in this weekend at the CBA. emoBawl They announced that there was several bass that needed to be taken by someone so I took one of the three bags. I have to admit I would rather have crappie but I also did not like to see good fish go to waste. I was one tired trooper after 12 hours fishing but I cleaned those bass and then sliced up the fillets into thin pieces not more then a 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.

-Took a mess of them and fried them up last night. Soaked them for a couple hours in a cup of water with two eggs beat. Looks like you are making scrabbled eggs. Soaking them makes them sticky, fluffy and they hold the cornmeal better.

-The coating.
Martha Whites yellow cornmeal.
Lemon pepper seasoning, about three teaspoons heaped.
Monkey Dust, a couple tablespoons heaped. Cajun seasoning will work if you have no monkey dust.
Powdered garlic, one teaspoon.
Parsley crushed, about two teaspoons.

Rolled the sticky fillets in the coating so it is well covered. I have a deep fry on my porch. I get it to about 350-400 degrees and drop the fillets in the grease. Cook it until they float to the top. They are ready. emoTongue

I like mine with fries, hush puppies and corn on the cob.

Yeah Jim, these summer tournys are rough enough on the fish-a 12 hr is extremely brutal (don't get that train of thought)

You are a true sportsman for collecting those and I've seen you fizz many to revive them. The delayed mortality is a whole different issue,
But, good job on harvesting the ones you did and the recipe sounds great! emoToast

3 bags is allot! Not to mention that 40% die after being let go...:(

Monkey Dust on Blackened Fish is really great too. You should try that Jim.

Here while back Rogie Brown posted about how to keep bass alive for a while in a live well. I have been doing it since I read it. I have also started taking a extra cooler with a bunch of frozen water bottles in it. Gatorade bottles work the best. I put a little salt on each side of my well. I then put a cap full of "Please release me" in each side also. As I started filling the wells I put a large frozen bottle in each side. I changed out the bottles six time that night and the water once. I added "Release me" twice to each side and salt the one time I changed out the water. Tom F. (bumblebee kid) of the CBA I'm sure would confess my bass were bouncing out of the sink when I brought them up.

It works if you take care of your fish. emoThumbsup Jmax

P.S. Out of the eleven bass I cleaned not one had any weights in them, I looked. emoAngel
