Well if there is ONE thing I've learned from this forum its not to believe everything you hear.

Just ask some old fellar's about Slime Guard. emoDoh

And after reading your post Doc .. I'm sure THAT .. falls into the same category.

Once .. maybe ... TWICE ... LET's HOPE NOT!

TT... in my book there is a story about taking my kids "Frog Grabbing." Gigging is the exact same scenario except instead of bare hands, you use a long stick with a real sharp fork (i.e. gig) on the end of it. It is great fun and fresh fried frog legs sure are tasty. Actually there are still several folks around here who do it... you can find some hefty bullfrogs in the backwaters of Chickamauga Lake... Savannah Bay is one place we used to gig a lot. Farm ponds and small lakes however are usually better, but obviously harder to get access.

One story that is NOT in the book... when I was Game Warden I came across my county judge out frog gigging one night. Being the dutiful game warden, I was going to count and be sure he and his buddies weren't over the limit. I didn't know their "frog sack" had a hole in it and I ended up letting a whole bunch of the judge's frogs escape. emoDoh I lost the next few cases I took to his courtroom.

I love frog legs .. but haven't had any in eons!!! What's the limit? Is there a certain size they have to be? I still have tree frogs living on my back deck in my flower pots. They're names are Francis and Frederick. One in each pot of Hibiscus. I'm wondering after knowing them if frogs legs would be so tasty? :)

Thanks for explaining it to me RSimms.

Thanks guys for the info. Just looking for something to do on my day off. Spur hunter I grew up in Jacksonville. Did a lot of offshore fishing in the Northeast Florida area, but since moving here I haven't had much luck with the freshwater fishing. So maybe this weekend I will try something a little different. Thanks again.

BULLFROG HUNTING
All waters of the state are open to bullfrog hunting except waters within state and federal wildlife refuges. Season is open year round, except on TWRA managed lakes the season is June 1-30. Bag limit is 20 per person, per night. The use of firearms is prohibited for bullfrog hunting on wildlife management areas and TWRA lakes. Only domestically raised bullfrogs or parts thereof may be sold.
A hunting license is required to take bullfrogs. No WMA permit is required.

No size limit... but if their body isn't at least as big as your fist, let 'em grow.

Strip mines can be an excellent place for frogs. We used to gig all over Suck Creek Mountain. Be prepared though, the silt in some of those ponds can be like quicksand. Take a buddy and each of you have a rope

Any creek you can walk up the middle of is ok. We used to gig Chattanooga Creek back when they still ran raw sewage in it (the only time we used waders)...the frogs were better fed and bigger.

A .22 target pistol makes an excellent frog gig!

BB Pistol? I don't know. Even if it did penetrate the skin the velocity would then be spent and unlikely to do much, if any, damage.

Just my off-hand opinion, I don't really know.
