Fished the G yesterday with jsb preparing for the Bama Division Tournament next weekend. Although I like Power Pro better, I thought I'd use what I had left of Spiderwire. Because of the water on the line and the cold temps, the Spiderwire would freeze on the spool making casting near impossible. This was a problem from sunrise until noon. I suspect Power Pro would do the same thing. Doesn't Fireline have a coating on it that can prevent freezing on the spool? Next weekend looks about as cold as yesterday.

Hey Pointer try running your line through a towel sprayed with silicone or even just spray the line on the spool with silicone. If I am out of silicone I use WD40. Works well for me and doesn't allow much freeze up.

You can dip in the water, but once you start your commited to doing it alot til it warms up. I bought a propane heater for my boat, your welcome to take it with you for your tournament if its going to be as cold.

I wonder if you could spray de-icer on it? Yesterday was the coldest day I have ever bass fished and I have never seen line freeze as quickly as it was yesterday. I was fishing very slowly yesterday and when i would reel in line I would have to break ice to get line headed my way. I am not sure what your fishing with braided line, but you may want to consider moving to heavy mono for the TX. And I would take flip up on the heater! just amke sure you have a fire extinguisher ready.

30# braid for lipless cranks in the grass is the line of choice in Spring for most on G. The braid cuts through grass better than mono. I didn't have any problem with fluorocrbon line or mono while fishing other lures.

In the December '06 issue of Bassmasters, on page 65, you will find your answer: Suffix brand performance ice braid. I just happened to spot it this evening and thought about the thread. They also have a website: www.sufix.com It comes in 6-30# braid. Hope this helps! Good luck next weekend!

Do nothing to your braid Pointer. Let this serve as a lesson ... just fish when it's W-A-R-M-E-R. Sheez - we live in the TN Valley ... where it's 20 one day and 65 the next. Worry not about your line Grasshopper, worry about your friggin' patience. emoIdea

Try some "REEL MAGIC"..Helps with casting also. I keep braid damp when using, all seasons......
Will for sure use at Guntersville this weekend, sounds as if there are a lot of us to be looking for the hot
Sat. AM in the BFL ...See ya there
