I have a 1979 Johnson Javelin 100hp with tilt and trim and comes with all controls, I traded for this boat all I wanted was the trailer, the boat is crap and rotted stringers not worth time or money to fix, and all I wanted was the trailer any way .. This motor hasn't run since 2008 .. I didn't ask any questions about the motor since I didn't care about the motor.. I was going to get start it and make sure it ran or not .. then sell it. That was early spring .. well I just never got around to it .. I took off the heads to check the cylinder walls, pistons etc .. after seeing that it had run hot ( discoloration of paint) walls good everything checked out A-OK.
So then I took off the thermostat housing to check them .. gunked up .. prob why engine had overheated.. they will need replaced, impeller in lower unit I'm sure will need replaced as well ( I would no mater what )
There the block looks good, and the gears in lower unit work good.
The complete thermostat kit is about $30 ,head gaskets set is about 20 bucks, and the and the water pump impeller $30 on ebay, and carb kits to clean and over haul the carbs that have been sitting several years will run you 20 or so each ( motor has 2 carbs) This motor is all disconnected and ready to take to your house, two nuts and off it will come.
Dont ask if it runs , I cranked it , the starter turned, and the motor turned over , wouldn't fire, but I didn't try to hard, and with carbs gummed up it prob wasn't getting gas .. thats as far as I went with it .. just been too busy with work and other things to mess with it .. didnt need it anyway. The Price is FIRM VERY FIRM and VERY FAIR, the motor is worth this in scrap, or part it it out .. either way you will make money or have a great engine with a lil elbow grease.
