It sure is getting expensive to fish. Our BP and Conoco gas cards alone added up to $800 this month and I have a very efficient boat. This is actually starting to put a dent into how much fishing I will do and how far I will drive to a ramp or run the boat when I get there. I believe I will be spending a lot of time in soddy creek for a while. I wanted to go to Guntersville with fishinvol today but at 160 miles round trip at 11 mpg with the boat and probably 30 miles in the boat at 5 mpg we would have used 21 gallons of gas at $3.20/gallon for fuel cost of about $68. In a Ranger or any other heavy boat its more like 3mpg for a total days gas of 25 gallons for a total of $80. That's a very expensive fishing trip!
We recently bought a small car and I bet the only time I ever drive my Tundra is when I pull the boat!

I hear ya, I live 3 miles from the Holly circle ramp and will spend most of my summer on the Chick due to the gas prices. Its not even the boat its the 12mpg in the truck that is killing me. Its getting even harder to drive to the NICK with the gas prices the way they are. I have been wanting to fish Carters lake really bad. I dont see that happening any time soon

I agree Bettlespin. I drive my little car to work and only drive my truck on the weekends unless i need to pull something. My fishing partner has been wanting to use his boat so i just meet him at his house or the ramp. Depends on if we are joy fishing or Tx fishing. They maybe a lot more joy fishing in the near future. If we are TX fishing i pay the entry and he pays the gas bill. It usally works out close to even.

Dont look for the prices to come down anytime soon. All of the major oil companies had increases in the first quarter and there is another coming next month. If you have a particular oil you like for your boat or vehicle, go stock up! Lubricating oils dont come down in price like the gas prices do and last price I heard was $112 per barrel-this is scary and something needs to be done, but as whiskers noted, its not slowing many people down.

Most of this money goes to Iran, China, and Venezuela just to name a few of our more "friendly" sources.
