OK guys I need some help.Have replaced fuel guage and sender on Ranger and it still wont read right.Moved the new sender arm all hooked up and it still wont read but half empty on the guage with the arm all the way down jumped the guage like it said to and checks out fine.Cleaned all terminals good and replaced checked at battery and fuse panel and all is good. Please help me if I'm missing something am at my wits end on this thing. Thanks all emoBang

DITCHDOC WHEN YOU HAD THE SENDER OUT OF THE TANK DID YOU HOOK IT UP AND TRY IT IF SO WHEN YOU RAISED IT UP DID IT READ FULL AND LET DOWN READ EMPTY WHEN YOU PUT IT BACK AND DID'NT READ RIGHT BE SURE THAT THE SENDER IS GROUNDED THAT CAUSES MOST PROBLEMS WHEN THEY DON'T READ RIGHT HOPE THIS HELPS

I did have the sender out and the old one and the new one both read full with arm up and just over half with the arm all the way down This has me puzzled and the guage checked out fine old guage and new one both read the same. I'm lost

Thats what i thought too Doc1,but I have tried three diff sensors and two guages and they still read the same in the tank or out when moving the arm it will only go to half tank on guage.

Try looking at the wires between the guage and the tank, if the wire going from the guage to the sending unit has grounded to the ground wire along the way, this could be creating a false reading.

Check out the senders and gauges with an independant battery, this will show if you have a wiring problem, do this out of the boat so that there will be no interference from the boat. If everything works out by testing this way, the wiring or something in the boat is causing this. If the independant testing still shows that the gauges go only half way, the problem is still in the gauges or senders.

you need 12 volts to sender from gauge, test it with a halogen light (headlamp} you need to have a current loading device to check for excessive resistance to sending unit{a test light or volt meter will show 12 volts be the circuit may still have high resistance},if it will light up, circuit is good, you should be able to ground the signal wire to sending unit and the gauge should read full,if it dont gauge is bad, headlamp test will also work for checking the ground circuit for high resistance or open circuit, the sending unit can be checked easy enough with an ohm meter, you're just looking for a change on your meter, empty to full, hope this helps!!

emoBang emoBang OK I tried doc1 idea and tested the new guage and sending unit outside the boat works fine rechecked all wires to switches and cleaned and replaced some connectors that needed it tried the new sender to guage in boat and still reads half, tried new guage to old sender and the same, noticed that the ground from the sender also has a ground that goes to my fuel fill screw? Is that normal? Can I just rewire the whole set up from the batteries or need to run it through something elsa.Cant figure this one out?

It s all them new LED lights and networked electronics. You modified it to death. Id take it back to Ranger and demand a refund. Its only given you 15 years of good fishin. Really, wish i could help ya out. I'd just screw it up worse.

You have to have a ground on the sending unit, if not it will not read. Look to see if yo have a green wire that is close to the sending unit in the tank and connect this. This sounds like you have some wires switched in the mess under the console.

emoPoke It's only given me 22 good years John and I thought at least a white shirt would have a answer for me right away!! emoUpsmile I am at my wits end on this one and am about ready to rewire the entire boat and that will be a job and a half,oh well another 6hours thurs and maybe something will work right.cya around
