Just wanted to share my recent good fortune.
1. Had my birthday recently, and my wife got me a gift certificate for a John Miles custom rod. I'll be going to talk to him soon to talk over what will do what I want. Super excited! The only downside is now I feel that I'll need to drop a load of cash on a quality reel that is worthy of being mounted on one of John's rods.
2. Went on vacation and my eldest daughter caught 8 fish - mostly catfish. Because of this, she went from having no interest in fishing to begging to go all the time. Hahaha...
3. When I got home from vacation, there were four 10- to 12-foot pieces of bamboo in my driveway, left there by a neighbor. I'd told him I'd like to try some cane-pole fishing and he left the most important part.
4. For Father's Day, I got another gift certificate, which I used to get a few things: a) an underwater fishing light - which I'm anxious to try out, b) one of those real cheap crappie reels, which I'm going to attempt to mount on one of the cane poles, c) an eye for the tip of the cane pole (it's for a regular pole, but I'm going to try to rig it), and d) some hi-vis Mr. Crappie line - 6 lb test. I've heard so much good stuff about the hi-vis line, I couldn't wait to get some. Now to try it out...
All that said, all this greatness was made possible by my amazing wife. Were she by my side right now, I'd give her a smooch.
