I have been debating a larger trolling motorsince my 41# jOHNSON is a little short sometimes when you`re trying to hold on a windblown point or something like a hump. Since Ive had such good service out the 2 Johnson`s I`ve had over the last 26 years I really didn`t want to change .Since they don`t make them anymore Ihad to look for a used 54# or change brands. Found some on e-bay...... some true 54# and some 41# that they thought were 54#s...but none Iwanted to chance without actually seeing them. So I asked my local dealer at Bunch Marine if parts were still available and lo and behold they could still get the 54# motor.....250$ . Ordered it monday and got it wednesday...installed it today. Gonna try it out tomorrow. The lower unit motor is the only difference in the total package. 3 bolts and 2 wires and its changed out...although a little tight wheres the wires connect.

durn prop was 40$ but I`ve never hurt one of `em so it`ll last and is couple inches bigger.

30% more power and a new motor to boot ain`t bad for $300.....should be good for another 20 years or so !! (knock on wood )

I`m not too sure you couldnt build one from their parts dept. I had to get a 41# motor about 10 years ago when it got water in it (fishing line around the seal). And I got steering cable a few years ago. And there`s plenty of used ones still out there. I`ve got an extra from one of our CFF brothers for parts but haven`t needed any yet.

You could probably redo a used one to new condition for a lot less than you can get a MG or MK new and I`ll just about guarantee you it will last longer and be quieter.

Love `em !

Those old OMC's were the best. Dependable workhorses. There are still a lot of them used everyday.
