Gang, I am sure no one on here would dare bring in small bass or crappie. However I am just giving a heads up to all that our guys in green are really cracking down right now. I am personally glad to see it but to my amazement a guy came in down at the wolf with several shot crappie(9" to just under 10 inches) that did not go the required 10 inches and he got fined heavily when they came up and checked him. I also saw one of them sitting off to the side of the wolf ramp looking like he was waiting for folks to come in so he could check them. Just make sure you are right on your length limits and for some of you who have been stretching it all your life you might want to measure to be sure.emoBigsmile Jmax

I saw a guy get fined sunday below the dam too. He had a bunch of short bass(real short) and he had the gall to make a scene about it.

We got checked the other day and I was glad to see the guy out there. I think a lot of folks have forgotten to buy a license, I almost did, and that is one of the reasons why they are out in force. Plus with the new limit laws they have their hands full. I personally I'm glad to see them checking. Last year I watch two guys fishing from the bank keep EVERY fish they caught, bass, shellcracker, crappie, catfish, you name it. Some of the fish they were tossing in the bucket (yes a 5 gallon bucket) looked almost like bait they were so small. Makes you sick to think about it.

I was just worried about Fat Albert. He has been telling his wife for years that he was six feet tall so I know he cannot tell size and length at all and for sure after all those years he and his better half have been togather she is really messed up on her sizes.emoPoke A guy told me the fella at the wolf got a $1,200.00 fine.emoEek This may have been blown up from one person to the other but I do not know what kind of fines it brings so I guess that may be true.emoConfused Just make sure you are correct and if in doubt let it go. No crappie is worth it. Man....if that was ever to happen to me I would be down right sick.emoVomit Jmax

I think I will stick to keeping 10 inches and up

I don't even see the point in keeping smaller fish they aren't hardly worth cleaning.

Jmax, I was told it was $123.50 per short fish..

Dang! I guess that may be the case then if he had 10 short crappie. I do not know the details except he came in and they came up as he was loading up his boat and said they needed to see his license and catch. Caught with the hand in the cookie jar.emoDoh I too am glad to see them doing that. It will make folks think twice about keeping short fish. I may ask them to show up at our next CFF and see if anyone trys to bring a short one to the scales.emoBigsmile emoPoke

FA you know I love ya man! I had to pick on someone today and you are so easy. Look at it this way, if I am picking on you then someone else is getting a break.

I don't have to worry about that - I am mostly just a fun fisherman and the bass stay in my boat just long enough to unhook 'em and throw them back. My livewell quit smelling like fish years ago. I only worry about it on those rare occasions that I fish a fun tournament like the ones on this forum!

What kind of boat was the guy who got the ticket fishing from? I saw a fellow keeping dink crappie today in a G3 over in C-Frost.

I am very glad the officers are out in force handing out tickets. Especially below Chickamauga Dam... An extremely large number of undersized Smallmouth Bass get a stringer rope ran through their throat right there on those rocks.

I generally through back crappie less than 10 1/2". I like thqat margin for safety. If you measure your crappie, be sure that the mouth is closed. If you measure them with an open jaw you may be keeping undersized fish. There is about 1/2" difference.

Me and GAfisherman went out on Saturday and a game warden came by at Wolftever. I was extremely upset when we got back to the boat ramp to see a man pull his boat out of the water and start throwing Crappie out of his livewell. Two things made me mad about it, the fish didn't look to be big enough and half the fish he threw didn't even make it to the water! A few hit his boat as he threw them and some hit the ramp, but few made it safely into the water. There were still two laying on the ramp when we pulled up and I pushed them out into the water. I'm sure several of these fish probably died... That kind of wasteful laziness drives me absolutley crazy.

According to Tennessee code 70-6-102 each offense of taking short crappie is not less than $25 and not more than $50.

Thought I would post this before the crappie fine got to $1000 per fish

The fellow that was telling me about it was a friend of the guy that got the fine. He did not agree with him on keeping short fish and laughed about it saying he was asking for it. He told me that his friend was fined 12 hundred and something. I do not remember the smaller amount. I think I was in shock on the 12 hundred part. He acted and sounded like he knew what he was talking about.emoScratch Jmax
