I normally never comment on local news, but I have to on this one. With crime running rampant in the city of Chattanooga, the new Gang Study Group came back with some recommendations. Scattered in the recommendations was this statement from Chief of Police Dodd:

"Why don't we as a group, or collectively as a city, bring in the mayors and go to Alstom, Amazon and go to Volkswagen and demand jobs. Not ask them, demand them. 'You're going to be a corporate citizen here; here's what we need from you,'" he said.

"There's no way in the world we can't take 100 hard core criminals who run most of the crime we have in this city. Not 1,200. Not 1,300. It's about 100 people. There's no way this city can't give those 100 people a job," Dodd said.

REALLY??? This is one of the most amazing things I have ever heard anyone in law enforcement say in Chattanooga. This guy thinks that these companies should hire these thugs? Really? With thousands of upright, hard working people, out of work, trying to pay bills and do the right thing, he thinks these thugs should be given a job and the city should demand it? Does he understand that this is the entire point; thugs don't WANT to work. They want to sell drugs, steal, draw welfare and live off the public. They understand force and punishment, something that is sorely lacking in Chattanooga. Does this police chief really think this is the answer; "just give them jobs"? Sorry for the rant. Just had to point it out. Not political and I don't want it to be. It is about the mind set of a city and the people that run it. I agree with our sheriff; "put them in jail, run them out of town, or put them in the morgue".
