Bass Pro has a Garmin Ledgend GPS on special for $99 right now. Does anyone know if the thing is any good and if it's really hard to learn to use it. Would appreciate opinions before I tell Santa. Thanks

Do a google search on the garmin and see exactly what it will do before buying, that price just might get you in the door trying to get you to buy something else.

The first GPS I bought was the Legend. It is a very good unit and is easy to use. I used it for about and year and liked it a lot. It was my first unit therefore I didn't want to spend a lot not knowing if I would use it. I used it mainly for hunting. The only problem I had was when the leaves were on the trees because it would have a hard time picking up a signal. Once I saw the benefits of a GPS and realized I was hooked, I sold it and bought the Garmin 60CS since it has a stronger antenna. It works great too and has a lot more memory. I am sure the Legend would work great for fishing as well since you wouldn't have the tree canopy issue. The Legend fits easy in a shirt or coat pocket. I also like the toggle button on the Legend. I paid $140 shipping and all a few years ago and thought I got a steal.

gator i am a new member and this is my first post. I DO HAVE ETREX LEGEND. i have had it for a few years. personally i have found it to be a good unit for the price. i paid more for mine at the time. true in heavy tree canopy you may have to move around to get a signal, however on the water there will be no problem. with the basic map loaded on the unit there are no contour lines for the lakes around here. you can still mark spots (dropoffs, brush, etc.) by useing your depth finder and return back to them at any time. the screen is a little hard to see in bright light. you will have to move it around sometimes to be able to see it. i purchased the garmin map source cd and loaded it onto my computer. this will give you contour lines on most of our local lakes. the price was $100.00. with this option it is very easy to download or upload info. all in all if you just want a gps that will get you to your favorite spot and back again the unit will do just that at an affordable price..........bowhiskey
