I've had my 76 CSX for a few months now and have used it enough to highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good general purpose handheld GPS. It is one of the new X units which means it has a micro SD card to store maps on. The unit also has the new SIRF gps chip which gives more accurate position fixes. I'm not kidding, this unit is fantastic -- it is able to get a position fix in the middle of my den at home with walls all around and the second story on top of me! I use it on the lake, in my car, and when I'm flying in our company airplane. It has no problem getting a position fix after a cold start up in the plane when we are going 200+ mph. It is a color unit and has a built in electronic compass so it is able to locate your heading even when standing still! I purchased the Mapsource City Navigator CD which covers the entire US. The unit is able to plot routes on the fly from the handheld and give you turn by turn directions. On a trip to Destin it was right on the money. It gives an audible beep just before a turn and the screen updates automatically to give you a preview of the turn. It has a data base that gives you fuel, food, shopping, points of interest and you can sort all of this by location or exit number. It will even give you the address and phone numbers of the places. I like the fact that the unit only uses 2 AA batteries and they seem to last about 20 hours of use before recharging or replacing. I got the auto navigation kit which has a portable mount for the car. I plan to get a handlebar mount for it, which I can modify and use in my boat. Anyone who is interested in a full featured handheld unit should check out the 76CSX.

Thanks for the report on the 76CSX. It is one of several that I've been mulling over for fishing and hunting.

Most Excellent report. I agree totally. My handheld is the Garmin GPS/Map 76S. I have been wanting to get the color version of mine which is the unit you have. Mine has 24 MB of extra internal memory for downloading additional maps. With the removable cards you have the advantage to have different maps for several areas. However I have both Topo and Metroguide maps loaded in mine that covers the eastern half of TN, north GA, coastal GA and the eastern coast of FL down to Port St Lucie. I can not imagine needing more.

Does your unit show the Tidal charts along with celestial and game and fish movement times?

I was told that the color units does not have tide charts and that is the main reason I do not have one. I must have tide info for what I do.

Thanks. If you are like me, I don't leave home without my GPS. I love that technoligy.

Check out the Garmin Street Pilot 7500 for your vehicle.
