I was just wondering about the gas mileage on my boat. I have a 17.5ft boat with a 115hp mercury. Yesterday I put in at Tyner road near the yacht club, fished almost to the coast guard station near the dam and then back up river. Used probably 3 gallons of fuel. Not sure how this compares with other boaters out there. My tach does not work, so not sure how many RPMs I run at, but far from full throttle, trying to save fuel. Just wanted some feedback from others boaters to see if i'm average or what.

I have a ProCrappie 175 with a 40 4-stroke Merc on it and last week I put in at the Riverpark, ran from the dam to downtown Chattanooga both days and used just under 3 gallons total. I haven't figured the mpg, but I'm satisfied with the results. I run WOT all the time.

I filled my tank yesterday after I fished, it was basically full when I started fishing, the took almost 12 gallons. I ran up and down the river quite a bit and ran it quiet hard. (Gas milage, SUCKS!!). 07 150 vmax carb. Im killing myself for not putting the F150 on the boat when I bought it January, but gas was 2.67 when I first filled up that boat. Id like to keep this boat for 5 years until the warrenty on the motor expires after that I will never buy another 2 stroke.

For best gas efficiency I use a whale tale to allow me to run on plane at a lower speed and adjust plane to just before porpoise.

Scott,

The new DFI two strokes actually get better gas mileage than the four strokes. My boat has a 250 mercury optimax XS with the smartcraft system and it tells me how many gallons per hour I am using. At wot I burn about 21.5 gph and run about 85 mph in this weather with two fat guys and equip in the boat. That equates to 4mpg which is very good for wot. At 80 mph I burn 16 gph which equates to 5mpg. At 70mph I burn about 13 gph which is about 5.4 mpg. I can get close to 6 mpg running around 55-60. The boat has a lot to do with fuel economy. Put my motor on a 21ft Ranger or Skeeter and you are looking at wot speeds closer to 70 which equates to about 3.2 mpg. In the larger motors from 150 up the dfi two strokes are generally more efficient than the four strokes. At least on bass boats anyway.

Hope this helps.

well im not sure about my miles per gallon not really sure i want to know...probably be depressing...it takes me what seems like 6 gallons of high test per trip...merc125hp...on a ranger175vs.. so it is more than my bass tracker burned w/ 40hp...but when i got rid of it gas was no real issue...but staying out of the throttle definetly helps

Tell me about sucking, I have a 36 gallon tank so filling up is pretty painful. emoAngry

Mine is 36 too Davo, but I've never filled it up. I ran over 75 miles at Logan Martin last year and used just over half a tank, I figured that was pretty good for a carb 150.

Well I have a 7.5 horsepower engine with a 3 gallon tank, and can go almost all day on it. but my top speed is 85 mph-75 mph=me at WOT! (10 mph)

Tyler what is average ? The old saying is if you want to play you got to pay.I have no idea on what my average is but man it's fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mandingo, I have a 1979 motor that had set up for several years when I got it. I did all the work myself to get it running, and thought it might be burning too much fuel, but I see now that i'm doing pretty good. Thankfully at wot, i'm guessing means wide open, my motor sputters from lack of fuel, so i cannot do it.
